This just in from Brian Brock - Norse Energy's ex CEO has evidently pretended to buy Norse's remaining producing assets - so that Norse can forestall bankruptcy. "These 22,000 ac being sold are held in production by Herkimer and other sandstone wells could be all of Norse's producing properties because I'd guess that they have less than 100 producing wells. They already sold the pipeline and marketing service. Now Norse is also selling ROW for future pipelines and their gathering system. … [Read more...] about Norse Energy Continues to Burn Its House Down to Keep Warm
Who Really Wrote the dSGEIS ?
It's no secret that big chunks of the dSGEIS were written by contractors, including ones that used the SGEIS as a de facto marketing brochure for what they peddle: fracking support services. The DEC was selective in what industry brochures they sourced from - somehow they missed this one: http://www.scribd.com/doc/80574646/Well-Failures This explains why the dSGEIS ignored much of the science - because the DEC didn't write the key sections; frack service providers did - not scientists. … [Read more...] about Who Really Wrote the dSGEIS ?
Pa. towns lose their right to zone but get a fracking piece of a fracking “fee'”
In depriving them their right to zone, the carrot to the Pa. towns - who have no property tax on wells - is to pay them some of the puny fee the state will collect on gas wells. This, in 'exchange' for taking away their zoning rights. The Pa. Supremes first took away the town's right to tax wells, then confirmed their right to zone in '09 - the Pa. leg. has now reversed both. They have lost their right to zone, in exchange for a piece of the new "fee" on producing wells that the state enables … [Read more...] about Pa. towns lose their right to zone but get a fracking piece of a fracking “fee'”
“It’s Not The Fracking Frack, It’s All That Other Fracking Stuff” - WSJ Discovers
How this rates as "news" is baffling - even at the Fox Street Journal. Where have we heard this ploy before ? To paraphrase broadly/ badly: "fracks don't cause cancer, fracking does." Meaning, obsessing over the act of fracking - "Safer fracking" side-steps all the other issues involved - some of which, like the fracking trucks, and where to safely dispose of the fracking flowback have no good fracking solutions in NYS. "A funny thing happened to me on the way to the frack" - going and … [Read more...] about “It’s Not The Fracking Frack, It’s All That Other Fracking Stuff” - WSJ Discovers
Frackademic’s Frackquake Nightmare
This is an account of a NYS National Guard earthquake drill in 2009 that was dreamed up by noted frackademic Robert Jacobi - before he became a frackademic at the Shale Shamstitute. Informative, in light of the fact that the DEC has gone out its way to downplay the probability of such a quake, even in areas that are heavily faulted. The DEC intentionally understates the extent of NYS faulting - including likely faults mapped by the geologist quoted in the article about the National Guard … [Read more...] about Frackademic’s Frackquake Nightmare
Want a Ban ? Frack Some New York State Senate Republicans Out of a Job
There is not likely to be any fracking ban in New York as long as the Republicans control the state senate. In fact, most bills that address fracking may not make it out of committees controlled by State Senate Republicans. Fortunately, there's something you (who can actually vote in New York) can do about it. This year. . . . … [Read more...] about Want a Ban ? Frack Some New York State Senate Republicans Out of a Job
New York City’s Seismic Carve-Out From Fracking Earthquakes
NYC has requested a "seismic buffer" around its Catskill water supply - about 7 miles to be precise. To prevent a frack from inducing an earthquake and ruining NYC's water supply. Like fracks have elsewhere - which obey Murphy's Law: "What can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time in the worst possible place" Like the NYC main water supply http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/02/us-gas-fracking-idUSTRE7A160020111102 (No fracking liability insurance for this. Even from AIG) … [Read more...] about New York City’s Seismic Carve-Out From Fracking Earthquakes

USGS Letter To The DEC - Letting Science Decide Fracking’s Fate in New York
Politicians are fond of saying “let the science decide” when it comes to fracking. OK. Let’s give that a shot. The scientists at the USGS were the first to debunk the grandiose overestimates of recoverable reserves in the Marcellus. Taking ”400 Tcf Terry” Engelder’s gaseous fantasy down a notch. About an 80% notch. . . Now they have weighed in on the DEC’s proposed guidelines (not regulations) via a letter. The scientists at the USGS are typically even-handed in their analysis. Their … [Read more...] about USGS Letter To The DEC - Letting Science Decide Fracking’s Fate in New York
