Turns out to be a post Bush /Cheney Clusterfrack lead by a group of hired thugs posing as (un)holy warriors who have targeted the oil fields of Syria and Northern Iraq. What a fracking surprise. History repeats itself, the second time as fracking farce.
What’s a bit ironic about this crew, who dress in ski masks made in China by Taoists, fatigues made in the US by Baptists and carry rifles made in Russia by Orthodox Catholics - is that their mind-control ploy is fundamentalist Islam - which ostensibly eschews all non-Koranic technology - unless it is an Exxon oil refinery or a power plant made by Westinghouse. How theologically convenient. This is what comes of combining a hydrocarbon extraction mentality with religious fundamentalism - sort of the the Mid Eastern equivalent of North Carolina - on hashish, with AK 47s. This is what comes of selling Toyotas to fundamentalist death cults.
The NYT’s account of the Road Warrior War for control of the oil refineries and oil fields of Upper Mesopotamia:
But the group is not only following a stone-age script. It also rapidly establishes control of local resources and uses them to extend and strengthen its grip.
It has taken over oil fields in eastern Syria, for example, and according to several rebel commanders and aid workers, has resumed pumping. It has also secured revenue by selling electricity to the government from captured power plants. In Iraq on Wednesday, the militants seized control of Baiji, the site of Iraq’s largest oil refinery and power plant.
These are the very same oil fields and refineries that GIs fought and died and were wounded to secure for Exxon. So now some Road Warriors took them over in the name of Allah and their Swiss bank accounts. Guess who’s going to complain loudest about that in Washington ? You think maybe Exxon’s lobbyists and the barking heads on the wing-nut talk shows ?
Iraqi Fracky is the New Benghazi. On Fox 24/7 up until Election Day. Enjoy. You heard it here last.
If all this seems eerily familiar - it’s the story line of Mad Max: Beyond the Thunder Dome - post-apocalyptic gangs fighting for control of an oil refinery. Which, like grenade launchers, tanks and Toyota pickups, were not mentioned in the Koran. All that’s missing is Tina Turner. Who is decidedly non-scriptural.
The sentiment on what the US should to do about this will cleave along the thickness of the fat checks from Exxon - who just lost their oil fields and refinery and are now hassling the insurance underwriters at Lloyds as to whether this is an “act of God” (invoking the Koran) or terrorism.
Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of the Bush / Cheney Clusterfrack Aftermath. Something for Hillary to sort out. Probably with a solution that involves more cluster-fracking ?
