Bring on the Hurricane. It Can’t Be Worse Than the Frack-Storm That’s Already Laying Us to Siege
On October 10th of 2011, in response to the tremendous destruction of Hurricane Lee for my town, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding townships, I wrote a short piece titled ” Fracking, Floods, and Fools” (Fracking, Floods, and Fools | Raging Chicken Press). In it I speculated about what the next flood event might be like for a state whose rivers and creeks are imperiled by a tsunami made not of natural causes, but of the unnatural design of the genocidal profiteers of the slickwater … [Read more...] about Bring on the Hurricane. Occupy a Pipeline, PVR/Chief Dehydrator, Beaumont, PA, 10.15.12
It's flabbergasting that beautiful pictures of beautiful people and beautiful places can come from moments in time that expose destruction and tragedy. This protest--one of many now past and certainly coming--commemorates Occupy a Pipeline, this one PVR/Chief's Dehydrator Station in Beaumont, PA. PVR--the same corporation who, along with Aqua America, is responsible for the evictions of 32 families from their homes at Riverdale, Jersey Shore, PA. PVR--one more … [Read more...] about Occupy a Pipeline, PVR/Chief Dehydrator, Beaumont, PA, 10.15.12
Buried Beneath some Shrubs and Grass and Wildflowers is Nothing but Frack-Tastrophe: Compressor Station Construction, Janet Hock Road, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, 10.13.12
It's difficult to capture the sense of palpable anxiety I felt taking these sets of photographs. This is the Janet Hock Road compressor construction site in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania that I have been documenting for about 10 months. It is simply staggering to witness the complete destruction of this once gorgeous vista, this small mountain now flattened, trenched, and riveted back together with pipeline. Here is where it all began, March, 2012 (though in truth much … [Read more...] about Buried Beneath some Shrubs and Grass and Wildflowers is Nothing but Frack-Tastrophe: Compressor Station Construction, Janet Hock Road, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, 10.13.12
The Industrialization of PASSHE: Where the Public Good, its Students, and its Faculty are Auctioned Off to the Extraction Profiteers (Or: Extortion by Extraction)
1. Pennsylvania Senate Bill 367 and Chancellor Cavanaugh’s Plan to Industrialize Higher Education Dory Hippauf’s “Welcome to PA Frack-U” offers an excellent profile of the Pennsylvania State Senate Bill 367: “an act providing for indigenous mineral resource development; and imposing powers and duties on the Department of General Services and the State System of Higher Education.” The bill makes Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) campuses available to Big Energy for the … [Read more...] about The Industrialization of PASSHE: Where the Public Good, its Students, and its Faculty are Auctioned Off to the Extraction Profiteers (Or: Extortion by Extraction)

The Corporatization of American Democracy, Genocidal Profiteering, and Slickwater Hydraulic Fracturing: The Extortion of “The Good American”
In honor of Shale Gas Outrage II, I have taken the liberty of posting a redrafted and much improved (I hope!) version of a longer, more scholarly piece I drafted earlier this year called "The Good American." These are the opening paragraphs. The full paper can be found here: http://philosleft.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-corporatization-of-american.html Of all the potential crises that threaten to undermine the grand experiment called “American Democracy,” that which poses the greatest … [Read more...] about The Corporatization of American Democracy, Genocidal Profiteering, and Slickwater Hydraulic Fracturing: The Extortion of “The Good American”

Comments on the NIMBY argument: a fracking industry strategy of divide and conquer
The following was submitted as "comment" to the New York Times Dot Earth feature, Andrew Revkin's article, "The Inevitable Slow Path To New York Shale Gas," (http://dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/31/the-inevitable-slow-path-to-fracking-in-new-york/) I'd like to focus on the accusation made by the fracking proponents that what opposition to fracking amounts to is "not in my back yard"--NIMBY. It is striking that this acronym has been converted into a noun to be used as a form of … [Read more...] about Comments on the NIMBY argument: a fracking industry strategy of divide and conquer
Introducing Wendy Lynne Lee
Dear readers of No Fracking Way, I am incredibly excited and flattered to have been invited to add my voice to the excellent writer-researcher-activists of Shaleshock Media. I have been writing a series on the dangers of hydraulic fracturing, its associated industries, its promise of future catastrophe for human and nonhuman health, communities, and the environment for Raging Chicken Press since about April of 2011. I have the "privilege" of living near some of the burgeoning epicenters … [Read more...] about Introducing Wendy Lynne Lee
