Paul Manafort is under investigation for his ties to Trump, who, in turn is being investigated for his ties with Russian operatives. If he hadn’t worked on Trump’s campaign, he’d probably only be under investigation for tax evasion on the fees he received offshore for working for Russia’s puppet in the Ukraine - who Manafort helped get elected. The Russians want to control not only the Crimea, but the rest of the Ukraine - since that’s where most of their gas lines are to Europe.
The Gas War of the 21st Century is the conflict in Ukraine. Makes the oil wars in Kuwait, Iraq and Libya seem so old-fashioned.
This Ukraine gas conflict was presaged by and is connected to Syria’s Gas Pipeline War. The last straw was when Paul Manafort’s client - ousted President Yanukovich - sold Ukraine’s shale gas to Chevron, then took his signing bonus (aka bribe) – and decamped from his really trumpish palace and private zoo to the safety of Putin’s place in Russia.
After Paul Manafort took over Trump’s campaign, he got the “Putin Plank” inserted into the Republican platform at their convention - which gave Russia a green light to move into the Ukraine.
There are no complicated dots to connect on this one. Manafort is the only connection needed.
