No Fracking Way

Jessica Ernst Coming to New York May 20 - 23

Jessica Ernst, who is speaking in NYS this month, is suing a fracker for gassing her water.

When a gas well leaks, it can release gas into groundwater

Along other downhole pollutants - particularly lighter-than-water chemicals that rise to the top.

The study shows an overall leakage rate of about 15% - (on an 7 well pad = 100% probability of a leaker)

The percentage for horizontal wells leaking is 4x that of vertical wells or 60%. (page 19)

(SCVF/GM are two measures of well leaks - as gauged at the wellhead SC - and gas migration GM in the groundwater)

Horizontal wells appear to be more likely to mobilize methane into groundwater than vertical well bores.

This is a global problem - even in Australia, where 44% of the gas wells leak upside down.

Possible explanations why horizontal well bores leak more than vertical well bores :

Any deviation from vertical can introduce gaps between the casing and rock at the curve towards the target zone.

Horizontal wells carry higher overall casing stress which can compromise the casing.

The circumference of the well bore is larger due to multiple casing layers - more area prone to gap away from the rock.

The casing/ production tubing is subject to repeated stressors in a horizontal frack - both thermal and mechanical

The total length is considerably greater than a vertical well = more casing area exposed to gas bearing formations.

Cement does not adhere to some types of shale - so one of the worst bonds between casing and rock will be in the shale itself

The industry Flat Earth apologists say that gas in well water is all biogenic - (cows behaving badly).

But this is simply not true (surprise - the frackers are fracking lying - again).

Service companies - Schlumberger, Archer, etc. - sell services to try and prevent gas wells form leaking thermogenic gas

http://www.scribd.com/doc/80574646/Well-Failures

Much of the gas is thermogenic in origin - from any or all of the gas bearing formations that are exposed by the well bore.

If you get a chance, go see Jessica when she is in New York at Elmira, Cortland, Ithaca and Syracuse May 20-23
