I am a native american Indidan, “Blackfeet Tribe” Our reservation lyes on one of the most beautiful places I know of. From our beautiful mountains our natural waters flow on down to create fresh lakes, rivers and streams. Today as I write this, my homeland is being damaged by oil well fracking. I am heartbroke as one of the wells is being placed only a couple miles near the mountain front, and two miles from my home. The well is placed in between two streams that flow on down to create a wetland where many of my neighbors get their well water. Not only is it a place where Bear, Moose, Deer and other animals large and small live. It is also a place where I gather my herbal medicines. This knowledge has been handed down to me from many generations. I a so afraid if and when the water is contamunated in this wetland I will have no where to go or survive. If you have any advice, please let me know. I live in a land where people just don’t know the seriousness of what fracking does to our Earth Mother.

We send you our condolences and strength to work with others in your community to stop fracking. I am part of Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation, a community organization working as an ally to the Onondaga Nation. Protecting Mother Earth is one of our key focusses. The Onondaga brought concerns about fracking for shale gas to our attention over two years ago and we’ve been actively working with thousands of other people throughout New York State to prevent us from experiencing the devastation which you describe and which we’ve seen in neighboring Pennsylvania. Our thoughts are with you as you seek to protect your homeland.
Peace,
