“On March 20, Trout Unlimited and members of the Sportsmen Alliance for Marcellus Conservation —a coalition of 20 sportsmen groups representing more than 265,000 members—met with legislators in Albany about concerns with the impacts of Marcellus Shale drilling on fish, wildlife, forests and water resources. Some of the specific issues we conveyed to legislators, include the inadequacy of DEC’s proposed setback from water resources, the lack of cumulative impact assessment and the lack of safeguards to protect fish and wildlife. New York state has a long tradition of sporting heritage and we support the prohibition of drilling on state lands, the areas where sportsmen hunt and fish.”
In other words: Don’t frack trout in NYS.
The setbacks for a gas well from streams and ponds, as proposed by the DEC ,are the worst in the US, and virtually guarantee that trout streams will be contaminated with methane, which kills fish :

Every sportsman knows this - even the ones who have listened to the frackers BS.

Sportsmen and women serve as the eyes and ears on the ground and we are monitoring impacts to fish and wildlife in PA, and working to make sure that NY’s fish and wildlife are protected. To learn more about our concerns, check out the video on the Sportsmen Alliance “resource page.”

It’s shocking that the gas well omitted will be the worst in the US. These activities also look bad on genuine fishermen, hobby or workers. Any updates on the outcome of this meeting?
