DRILL BABIES FOOLED AGAIN?

DRILL BABIES FOOLED AGAIN?

While following the latest “GAS”roots organization, United Shale Advocates (USA), which was created by the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), a quite by former President George W. Bush came to mind.  He mangled an old saying: “There’s an old saying in Tennessee – I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee – that says, fool me once, shame on – shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again.” Mark Twain put it a different way: “It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled”.  The MSC/USA project is a poster child for fooling people over and over and over again.   MSC/USA project is touted as being “grassroots”.  It’s not, it’s GASroots.   See: GASROOTS – United Shale Advocates for more on this. GASROOTS – United Shale Advocates

GASROOTS - United Shale Advocates

Last month the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), a fossil fuel funded lobbying organization, launched a “grassroots” advocacy program. “The goal of United Shale Advocates (USA) is to give a voice and a platform to those who support shale development in Pennsylvania but who are not directly involved in the industry”, said Steve Forde, vice president of communications and outreach for the Pittsburgh-based Marcellus Shale Coalition. What does that mean?  It means we have yet another fossil fuel funded public relations campaign masquerading as grassroots. The term “grassroots” implies that the creation of the movement and the group happens at the local level, as many volunteers in the community give their time, energy and resources to work on an issue which concerns them.  A true grassroots organization does not typically have […]

FOSSIL FUELS, MORALITY and THE STUPID

FOSSIL FUELS, MORALITY and THE STUPID

A friend of mine sent me a link to a paper, which at first glance I thought it was something from “The Onion” or MAD magazine.   The title of the paper,  “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels” cause me to run and find a roll of gauze so I could wrap it around my head to prevent my jaw from hitting the ground. It’s an 11 page paper written by Alex Epstein, Founder of Center for Industrial Progress.  Epstein is also the author of Fossil Fuels Improve the Planet, (he never did say which planet). EPSTEIN’S CREDENTIALS Per DeSmogBlog:  “Alex Epstein is the director of the Center for Industrial Progress (CIP), an organization he founded in 2011. Its mission is to “inspire Americans to embrace industrial progress as a cultural […]

DEP-DON’T KNOW FRACK (PART 3)

Don’t Know Frack Part 1 Range Resources Don’t Know Frack Part 2 Michael Krancer was appointed as Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary by Governor Tom Corbett in 2011.  Krancer resigned his position effective April 15, 2013 and returned to his old law firm of Blank Rome which represents a number of natural gas corporations operating in the Marcellus Shale.  He is now head of Blank Rome’s Energy, Petrochemical & Natural Resources Practice. His famous quote, “At the end of the day, my job is to make sure gas is done and gas is done right” provided many observers a unique and different perspective as to the term ‘environmental protection’. According to DEP Compliance Report (i.e. violations) for dates between Jan 1, 2009 thru August 31, 2013, Range Resources […]

RANGE RESOURCES-DON’T KNOW FRACK (PART 2)

Click here for Don’t Know Frack Part 1 With almost any issue facing us today we hear the mantra of needing transparency.  The government needs to be more transparent, regulatory agencies need to be more transparent, corporations need to be transparent and the general public rallies behind the mantra. Political campaigns often carry a talking point or two about supporting and needing more transparency.   Corporate advertisements and talking points will tout their transparency. Specific to the natural gas industry it appears they are about as transparent as the drilling mud from an inadvertent return to the surface, (i.e. drilling mud spill or blowout). In the A Motion for Contempt and for Sanctions in the Form of An Adverse Inference Docket No. 2011-149-R  it was pointed out Range Resources ran to […]

IHS CLONES AGAIN

IHS CLONES AGAIN

A number of media outlets are doing a copy/paste job on a press release from IHS Global Insights. IHS has just released a new fracking report entitled “America’s New Energy Future: The Unconventional Oil and Gas Revolution and the Economy – Volume 3: A Manufacturing Renaissance,” None of the “news” stories or the press release mentions the research and the report was supported by the American Chemistry Council, America’s Natural Gas Alliance, the American Petroleum Institute, the Fertilizer Institute, the US Chamber of Commerce–Institute for 21st Century Energy, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Natural Gas Supply Association, Rio Tinto, and the Society of the Plastics Industry. Knowing who the “supporters” are, it makes you wonder why the cover of the 73 page report doesn’t sport a cheerleader or two.   […]

HANGER AND THE UGLY CHOICES

HANGER AND THE UGLY CHOICES

Shale Justice hosted John Hanger, former Pennsylvania DEP Secretary on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 for a lively discussion. WATCH THE VIDEO Invites had been extended to all the Democratic Candidates for PA Governor. KUDOS to Mr. Hanger for graciously accepting. Contrary to the Marcellus Drilling News,  Shale Justice did not gate crash or protest their own event. Shale Justice extended the invitation, arranged for the date, time, location and even provided some light refreshments. The event began with Mr. Hanger making a few remarks.  Given the mission of Shale Justice and the interests of those attending, the remarks and ensuing discussion centered on energy issues, specifically natural gas in Pennsylvania.  THE UGLY CHOICES Hanger describes the current energy source menu of Coal, Oil, Nuclear, and Natural Gas as “UGLY CHOICES”. He explained […]

FRACKED EGGS MDN STYLE

Last week the natural gas cheerleading blog, Marcellus Drilling News (MDN) gleefully published what they thought was a big SCOOP with the headline of Shale Justice Coalition Plans to Gate-Crash John Hanger Appearance.  The MDN “article” made its way around the fracker blogs and breathlessly shared via emails, and spotted on an Energy-In-Depth/IPAA blog comment section.   This was indeed big news, worthy of coverage. [/end sarcasm]   Excerpt: Shhh. Don’t tell anyone…but the Shale Justice Coalition plans to show up en masse at a talk being given by former PA Dept. of Environmental Protection Sec. John Hanger on September 3rd at BloomsburgUniversity. Hanger is running for the Democrat nomination for governor in PA and the folks at Shale Justice don’t like his views on drilling. Shale Justice doesn’t want anyone […]
