Thanking the Gas Wolf Governor for “Saving” a Few Acres From the Frack is like Thanking the Armed Robber for Leaving the Curtains After He Guts Your House

Thanking the Gas Wolf Governor for "Saving" a Few Acres From the Frack is like Thanking the Armed Robber for Leaving the Curtains After He Guts Your House

Fresh out the inaugural gate, Pennsylvania’s Governor Gas Wolf wasted no time signing 22 permits to continue the conversion of the state into a giganto-frack-gas factory. At the direction of the new governor, (reported by Energy Justice), the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP),”permitted 22 shale gas wells for five counties in just three days from January 21-23. One of those well permits, Chief Oil’s Teel 4H, is within a mile of a cluster of 19 water wells in Dimock, PA that were spoiled by gas drilling in 2008″ (Bad Call: PA Governor Wolf Pursues Drilling on 700,000 Acres of State Land | Energy Justice: Shale Initiative). The report continues: The 22 new well permits last week were granted to operators including Chevron, Rex Energy, Cabot Oil & Gas, Chesapeake […]

Obama’s Big Fake Climate Change Speech and the Big Fake Greens Who Loved It

Obama’s Big Fake Climate Change Speech and the Big Fake Greens Who Loved It

Delivered at Georgetown University to a crowd of students whose own futures hang in the balance, President Barack Obama’s highly anticipated speech on climate change certainly sounded like a clarion call to real and measurable action.   Except that it wasn’t. For despite the fact that he does seem get the message about coal and greenhouse gas emissions, he has bought wholesale into the absurd, debunked industry manufactured hornswaggle transition argument for “clean burning natural gas”: “The bottom line is natural gas is creating jobs,” Obama said. “It’s lowering many families’ heat and power bills. And it’s the transition fuel that can power our economy with less carbon pollution even as our businesses work to develop and then deploy more of the technology required for the even cleaner energy economy […]

KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE and FACEBOOK

KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE and FACEBOOK

CREDO Action wanted to post an ad calling out Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg ads which called for expanded oil drilling and construction of the XL pipeline. CREDO Action’s ad was rejected by Facebook. According to the Financial Times, Moveon, CREDO, Presente, Sierra Club and Democracy for America have pulled their ad buys from Facebook in protest of its lobbying organization, FWD.us, which supports the building of the Keystone XL pipeline. While I do support free speech, even if that free speech makes my blood boil, I do have issues with a corporation, like Facebook, using its platform to promote its own political agenda by gagging those with opposing views. Financial Times also feels the economic impact on Facebook from the boycott will be negligible. This is true, if just a […]

Environmental Defense Fund – Environment In Name Only (EINO)?

Environmental Defense Fund – Environment In Name Only (EINO)?

One of the big members of the newly formed Center for Sustainable Shale Development (CSSD) is the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Fred Krupp, President of EDF, is a CSSD Board Director. In 2011, he was also named to President Obama’s fracking panel. EDF appears to have bought into many of the same natural gas industry talking points which we’ve all seen and heard in the slick advertising. EDF even has a slick graphic of their own. EDF Lobbying and Funding The lobbying firm used by EDF is K&L Gates, LLP. A number of the same K&L Gates employees also lobby for Energy corporations such as NextEnergy, Sapphire Energy and Peabody Energy. A number of these same lobbyists are former Congressional staffers or former members of Congress. Hellooooo Revolving Door! EDF […]

No fracking NY in 2012, 2013, or ?

August 22, 2012

Update, Labor Day + 7: the Governor acknowledges that the regs. will be ready when the DEC thinks it’s ready to defend them in court. . . good luck with that guv. Cuomo: No pressure for immediate fracking decision There won’t be (m)any horizontal shale gas wells in New York this year. Or next. Or likely, the year after that. That’s the news flash for the day. You won’t be reading that on Reuters, or AP, or in the newspapers. You won’t see it on TV talk shows or ads. But that’s what’s (not) going to happen. No fracking fracking. In New York. This year. Or next. Or ? The reason why is the “L” word. Litigation. And the “E” word. Economics - combined with the “G” word, geology. But first, the litigation. When DEC […]
