When the Roots Aren’t Made of Grass, the Solutions Save the System, and the Only Thing Hotter than the Planet is the Bacon

March 18, 2015

About two thirds of the way into Josh Fox’ Solutions Grassroots Tour performance at Clarke Chapel, Lycoming College, Pennsylvania, I got up and walked out. I wasn’t noisy-but I was definitive. I could say that Fox’ gig just wasn’t very well put together (it wasn’t), or that it seemed pretty cheesy on the side of a pitch for his new installment in the Gasland documentary series (it was). I could say that the “theater” promised in the trailer was wholly MIA, and that it wasn’t much of a concert-but the surprise musical guests were really really great.   Nope, I got up and walked out because the Progressive Democrat brand of politics being sold to an audience mostly made up of all the usual anti-fracking movement suspects-and no one really […]

PENNEAST and the TACO PIPELINE

February 15, 2015

One of the talking points touted by the fossil fuel industry is in regards to how many jobs it will create. When people hear the numbers, they are thinking these are jobs directly related to fossil fuels, like workers on a drill pad, or construction of pipelines. Former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett often boasted the shale industry had created 200,000 jobs in Pennsylvania. This conflicts with the 28,000 jobs reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (DOL). Why the difference in numbers? The 200,000 number often cited includes what the industry calls “support” or “ancillary” jobs, whereas the DOL number of 28,000 is directly related to the industry’s activities. According to Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry report for new hires in 2014 there were 6,844 Pipeline related […]

PENNEAST GARBAGENOMICS

February 11, 2015

Of the items mentioned to be considered in the Pre-Filing Environmental Review Process is the socio-economic impact. I would like to comment on the Economical Development Analysis released by PennEast this past Monday, on Feb. 9, 2015. The PennEast Economical Development Analysis was produced by EConsult Solutions and Drexel University and it eerily mirrors a similar report produced by EConsult Solutions on Feb. 5, 2015 for Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East project[i]. PennEast Economic Development Analysis February 9, 2015[ii] The original Pre-File documents submitted by PennEast, during the Open Houses, and in numerous statements made by PennEast representatives to media outlets, stated the PennEast project would create 2,000 jobs. The recently released Economic Development Analysis claims 12,160 jobs. This is a difference of 10,160 jobs and should raise red flags as […]

WOLF GETS CAKE AND EATS IT TOO

January 30, 2015

Via an executive order, Governor Tom Wolf issued an executive order #2015-03 which on first glance appears to stop all drilling on state lands and forests. To those who have broken out the champagne and are toasting the Governor’s actions you may want to put the cork back into the bottle and read the actual executive order. Executive Order 2015-03 - Leasing of State Forest and State Park Land for Oil and Gas Development There are two important items in the Executive order: The first is in the “whereas”: WHEREAS, DCNR has concluded that additional leasing of State Forest land or State Park land for oil and gas development would jeopardize DCNR’s ability to fulfill its legislative duty to conserve and maintain these public natural resources, and to sustain its […]

CONSTITUTION PIPELINE PREMATURE WITH EMINENT DOMAIN

December 8, 2014

Copy/paste articles about the eminent domain proceedings with regard to the Constitution Pipeline have appeared in “mainstream media”. I call them copy/paste articles because they originate from skimpy coverage by the Associated Press (AP) with no reporter cited. Pennsylvania-New York gas pipeline developer threatens to seize land through eminent domain, | by Associated Press | December 07, 2014, -New York pipeline developer threatens to seize land | By The Associated Press | Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 Shale gas pipeline developer threatens to seize land | By The Associated Press | 12/07/2014 See: Constitution Gas Pipeline Threatens Landowners With Condemnation | by Chip Northrup on December 5, 2014 for what reporting should look like. Conestoga Town Supervisors Circle the Wagons

December 3, 2014

On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 Conestoga Township, PA Supervisors voted not to protect its residents. In a 3-0 vote township supervisors rejected a Community Bill of Rights Ordinance. The ordinance would prohibit any land acquisition “for the construction, siting, or operation of unsustainable energy systems, because such systems would violate the right of Conestoga Township residents to a sustainable energy future.” Several hundred people had attended the last two supervisor meetings, urging them to take action on the Community Bill of Rights. At the November 4, 2014 supervisor meeting the board agreed to a special meeting to address this bill. About 200 people showed up for the Dec. 2 special meeting hoping the town supervisors would protect them via the Community Bill of Rights. Instead, town supervisors circled their wagons […]

DING! YOU GOT P-MAIL!

September 26, 2014

It’s been said politics is dirty. More often than not “dirty politics” refers to government officials taking money from special interests and corporations. Pennsylvania leads the way, redefines DIRTY POLITICS and brings it to the electronic age. PA Attorney General Kathleen Kane revealed PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary E. Christopher Abruzzo and at least 8 other prominent state officials exchanged sexually explicit photos, videos, and messages from state e-mail accounts between 2008 and 2012. The “P-mails” (porn-mail) were discovered during Kane’s internal inquiry into how her predecessors handled Jerry Sandusky pedophile case. Governor Tom Corbett was one of the Attorney Generals handling the Sandusky investigation. The Sandusky criminal investigation began while Corbett was serving as attorney general and continued through 2010, the year Corbett made his run for […]

BOLUS’S CAPONE CONGRUENCY

June 10, 2014

Al Capone, head of the most profitable crime syndicate of the Prohibition Era and mastermind of the notorious 1929 “Valentine’s Day Massacre,” seemed above the law. In 1931, Capone was convicted not of crimes related to bootlegging , extortion or murder, but rather for failing to pay income tax. Al Capone once complained about the bad reputation of his criminal enterprise: “Some call it bootlegging. Some call it racketeering. I call it a business.” On Friday, June 6, Brian Bolus and other members of his family were indicted on insurance fraud, theft and “related counts” connected with doing business. The Bolus businesses were also charge and include: Minuteman Environmental Services Inc., Minuteman Spill Response, Inc., Minuteman Towing Inc., Bolus Truck Parts and Towing Services Inc., Key Brockway Inc., Key Sales […]
