Kevin Bogus Wins Fracking Fiction Award !

(AP) Ardmore, OK. October 9th, 2013 The Associated Press’s resident Frak Flak, Kevin Begos (pronounced ‘bogus’ by the fractavist cognoscenti) has won this years Fracking Fiction Award, sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute. Begos received the award at a ceremony held last night at the tony Frackmore Club in the beautiful downtown Ardmore, Oklahoma Holiday Inn attended a bevy of celebrity frackers and frak shills, including the glamourous Brooke Shales, the TV Gas Blonde, who presented Mr. Begos with the award. When reached for comment by NFW’s seemingly omniscient and ubiquitous reporter, Mr. Bogus had this to say, tears welling up in his eyes: “I tried really really hard. I really thank these guys, the API, for such a great award.” Coughing,”It’s tough to write fracking fiction. Just ask Edgar Allan […]

DIMOCK GAS WELL SHUT DOWN DUE TO WELL WATER CONTAMINATION

DIMOCK GAS WELL SHUT DOWN DUE TO WELL WATER CONTAMINATION

Yes, we are revisiting water well contamination in Dimock! This week, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has determined a natural gas well is not viable due to leaking methane. Two properties have been effected. One is receiving water supplied by Cabot, and Cabot has installed a water filtration system in the second residence. What was that about natural gas industrialization NOT contaminating water? Regulators have been studying the source of methane in two water wells in the Susquehanna County community since February, when the water for one home became turbid and saturated with gas. Regulators said the frozen vent helped them to identify the suspect gas well - Cabot’s Costello 1 - but they concluded that opening the vent is “not the answer to the problem.” Instead, during […]

How to Frack a Landowner

How to Frack a Landowner

After their well has been poisoned. It all starts with the landmen and the fine print in the lease. There are basically two kinds of ownerships in an oil or gas well - a working interest owner, who is liable for the costs of the well, and an overriding royalty interest owner, or simply royalty owner - who, in theory, is not. Note the use of the terms “in theory” here. Keep that in mind for later. The operator can crook the working interest owners. Or the royalty owners. And crook them they will. Every fracking time. http://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2013/06/27/senate-panel-examines-complaints-of-underpaid-gas-royalties/ In general, a passive mineral rights owner - who may or may not own the surface rights (the land), will retain a royalty interest in the well, a “carried interest” in that they […]

IPAA EID RELEASES POOP 3.0

IPAA EID RELEASES POOP 3.0

In 2009 the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) created a public relations campaign called Energy In Depth (EID). The original EID branched out into other web pages specific to geographic locations. This included EID-Marcellus for Pennsylvania and New York, and the EID-OHIO for people in Ohio. Other places with no websites include California, Texas, “MTN” states, Michigan and Illinois. This month IPPA unveiled a “new improved” version created a one-stop shopping for rehash of the gas industry’s talking points. The new IPAA-EID site has more bells and whistles in an effort to improve the gas industry’s poor image. In other words, IPAA has put a pretty red bow on a pile of dog poop. New features include a video series which Jeff Eschelman, IPPA’s VP of Public Relations, hopes […]

The Natural Gas Message

The Natural Gas Message

I recently gave a presentation on the Message and the Messengers of the natural gas industry. I have broken this presentation into two parts. Part One dissects the standard talking points of the industry, using an opinion piece by Chris Faulkner, CEO at Breitling Energy Companies, as the prime example. The Message video is approx. 30 minutes long. CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT Part 2 – The Messengers, examines the trade organizations, front groups and astroturfing echo chambers who deliver the coordinated messages. This will be available as soon as I am able to record it. Debunking the Truth About Mythical Fracking Talking Points

May 6, 2013

An “opinion” piece by Chris Faulkner, Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Breitling Energy Companies has been featured in a number of newspapers across the country. The title varies, depending on the publication, from Dispel Myths About Fracking, Debunking Fracking Misconceptions, to The Truth About Fracking. All with Faulkner’s byline, and nearly identical. I say nearly identical, because only in Pennsylvania version is Pennsylvania mentioned in paragraph 4. Aside from Texas, many other areas of the country - including Pennsylvania - are also benefiting from fracking. However, this is a minor observation compared to the more obvious recitation of the standard natural gas talking points. FAULKNER and BREITLING ENERGY COMPANIES If you’ve followed by work, by now, you have probably asked the same question as I have – […]

Fossil Fuel Drilling an Earth Disaster in Slow Motion

May 2, 2013

Monday, August 29, 2005: Hurricane Katrina made landfall in southeast Louisiana. Sunday, May 22, 2011 an EF5 Multiple-Vortex tornado destroyed Joplin Missouri. Monday, October 29, 2012: Hurricane Sandy struck near Brigantine, New Jersey, just to the northeast of Atlantic City These are three of the environmental disasters we’ve seen widely covered in the news over the past few years. Their images and storm names have become iconic. People went to their computers and phones, wrote out checks, donated food, clothing towards helping the others in need. Politicians appeared before cameras and expressed sympathy. Massive fundraising concerts were held and televised. Corporations ran commercials, usually saying if you buy their product or shop at their stores they’ll donate $1 towards [ insert name ] fund. Well, there’s another earth disaster happening. […]

Fracking Monkeys in Pennsylvania

March 9, 2013

The Marcellus shale in Pennsylvania has often been described as the “New Texas”. The Natural Gas industry, as a whole, celebrates natural gas as being the “New Saudi Arabia”. Personally, if I wanted to live in Texas or Saudi Arabia I would have moved there. I am often asked “what is it going to take to wake up Pennsylvanians to the hazards and risks of natural gas industrialization?” Sadly, the majority of Pennsylvanians won’t wake up until they are personally effects, by then it may be too late. If they can’t see it or hear it, Pennsylvanians won’t talk about it. See no danger, hear no danger, speak no danger. My recent post “Arresting Monet - AG-GAG Pennsylvania House Bill 683” has stirred up some concern. These AG-GAG bills are […]
