FRACK THE DISNEY MOUSE

FRACK THE DISNEY MOUSE

Hey KIDS! Fracking for oil and gas is COOL! IT’S FUN! Mickey says you too can build a pipeline! Yep, Disney has jumped on the fracking hype and joined with the Ohio Oil and Gas Association (OOGA) to promote fossil fuel fracking to kids and make it fun! Elementary school classrooms in Ohio are being treated to a super special, game show-like day presentation, brought to them by Radio Disney and funded by the state Oil and Gas Association. All of the activities are aimed at teaching kids about science — the science, that is “behind oil and gas production and their value as natural resources.” The Wooster Daily Record describes how the program, “Rocking in Ohio,” combined science and fun (and industry interests) at the Wayne County fairgrounds this […]

Marcellus Wildcatter Bails

Marcellus Wildcatter Bails

Carrizo, who drilled a wildcat shale test well in Owego, New York - that leaked - is bailing out of the Marcellus/ Utica. Leaving behind leaking gas wells on both sides of the state line. Some of those shale wells that the frackers said “Never leak. Anywhere. Honest. Ever.” Except when they do, a lot, often, about everywhere. http://www.nofrackingway.us/2013/05/15/dog-bites-man-but-this-time-in-new-york/ Carrizo had an odd way of making a mess of things on both sides of the border. Kind of an Equal Opportunity Disaster waiting to happen: http://www.nofrackingway.us/2013/03/17/carrizo-oil-gas-blowout-spin/ So now they are trying to dump their New York acreage on some Greater Fool. “The Marcellus Shale divestiture primarily includes 2,850 net undeveloped acres in non-core areas of the play and is expected to close in the fourth quarter.” Carrizo Oil & Gas Sells Marcellus […]

IPAA EID RELEASES POOP 3.0

June 27, 2013
IPAA EID RELEASES POOP 3.0

In 2009 the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) created a public relations campaign called Energy In Depth (EID). The original EID branched out into other web pages specific to geographic locations. This included EID-Marcellus for Pennsylvania and New York, and the EID-OHIO for people in Ohio. Other places with no websites include California, Texas, “MTN” states, Michigan and Illinois. This month IPPA unveiled a “new improved” version created a one-stop shopping for rehash of the gas industry’s talking points. The new IPAA-EID site has more bells and whistles in an effort to improve the gas industry’s poor image. In other words, IPAA has put a pretty red bow on a pile of dog poop. New features include a video series which Jeff Eschelman, IPPA’s VP of Public Relations, hopes […]

REVOLT OF THE DRILL LEASERS

REVOLT OF THE DRILL LEASERS

Have you ever asked what will it take to get people and their government to pay attention to the impact of the natural gas industry? If the answer was “A huge catastrophic explosion or blowout or similar” – it appears you are wrong. The correct answer to “What will it take for people to demand government action” appears to lay in the “shiny”, more specifically when royalty checks are not meeting expectations. WNEP news reported the Bradford County Commissioners held a SPECIAL MEETING on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 to “Try To clear up Gas Lease Concerns”. THE PEASANTS ARE REVOLTING A long standing and perfectly legal practice of deducting POST PRODUCTION costs from royalty checks has some residents up in arms. Some leasers are receiving about $80 per month. There […]

The Natural Gas Message

The Natural Gas Message

I recently gave a presentation on the Message and the Messengers of the natural gas industry. I have broken this presentation into two parts. Part One dissects the standard talking points of the industry, using an opinion piece by Chris Faulkner, CEO at Breitling Energy Companies, as the prime example. The Message video is approx. 30 minutes long. CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT Part 2 – The Messengers, examines the trade organizations, front groups and astroturfing echo chambers who deliver the coordinated messages. This will be available as soon as I am able to record it. Debunking the Truth About Mythical Fracking Talking Points

May 6, 2013

An “opinion” piece by Chris Faulkner, Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Breitling Energy Companies has been featured in a number of newspapers across the country. The title varies, depending on the publication, from Dispel Myths About Fracking, Debunking Fracking Misconceptions, to The Truth About Fracking. All with Faulkner’s byline, and nearly identical. I say nearly identical, because only in Pennsylvania version is Pennsylvania mentioned in paragraph 4. Aside from Texas, many other areas of the country - including Pennsylvania - are also benefiting from fracking. However, this is a minor observation compared to the more obvious recitation of the standard natural gas talking points. FAULKNER and BREITLING ENERGY COMPANIES If you’ve followed by work, by now, you have probably asked the same question as I have – […]

Fossil Fuel Drilling an Earth Disaster in Slow Motion

May 2, 2013

Monday, August 29, 2005: Hurricane Katrina made landfall in southeast Louisiana. Sunday, May 22, 2011 an EF5 Multiple-Vortex tornado destroyed Joplin Missouri. Monday, October 29, 2012: Hurricane Sandy struck near Brigantine, New Jersey, just to the northeast of Atlantic City These are three of the environmental disasters we’ve seen widely covered in the news over the past few years. Their images and storm names have become iconic. People went to their computers and phones, wrote out checks, donated food, clothing towards helping the others in need. Politicians appeared before cameras and expressed sympathy. Massive fundraising concerts were held and televised. Corporations ran commercials, usually saying if you buy their product or shop at their stores they’ll donate $1 towards [ insert name ] fund. Well, there’s another earth disaster happening. […]

Water War – What Will You Drink?

May 1, 2013

You can’t drink natural gas, but you may have no choice. Last year, residents of the Riverdale Mobil Home Park were evicted to make way for a water withdrawal station. Aqua-PVR, a joint subsidiary of Aqua American and Penn-Virginia Resources, purchased the park, kicked the residents out, so they could sell water to the natural gas corporations. Now the residents of Old Lycoming Township face a similar problem. No, the residents aren’t being evicted, but their water supply is being threatened by a proposed water withdrawal station. Centura Development Co. plans on building a withdrawal station that will suck approximately 2 million gallons of water from the Lycoming Creek watershed and sell it to the natural gas corporations. In the grand scheme of water use for fracking, 2 million/week may […]

NATURAL GAS NOT A MINERAL IN PA

April 26, 2013

Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling settles hundreds of Marcellus gas leases | Washington (Platts) The state’s high court overruled an appeals court decision that called for more scientific testimony about the nature of the Marcellus Shale and upheld 131 years of the common understanding of Pennsylvania property law. The 6-0 decision in Butler v. Powers held that the so-called Dunham Rule, based on an 1882 case with the same name requiring a specific notion about oil (and by the years of court rulings, natural gas) on deeds transferring mineral rights. Without mention of oil or gas, the states courts have held, those rights stay with the party transferring mineral rights. The court also said that shale gas is different from coalbed methane gas and the owner of the shale does not […]
