That's Fracking Enough ! Regulators Shut Down Frackquake Well

After a whopping 4.1 earthquake on Friday, even Oklahoma regulators were finally fracking fed up. And they ordered the culprit - a frack waste disposal well - shut down. To bring a little piece and quiet to the prairie. And allow the neighbors time to shore up their walls, file their insurance claims and call their lawyers. How many cracked walls, cave-ins, busted water lines and nervous nights do you endure before you’re finally fracking fed up with frackquakes ? Don’t get mad. Get even. Sue the frackers, sue their contractors and sue their fracking lawyers. What the frack are you waiting on ? State Orders Waste Well Closed After Frackquake The order follows a magnitude-4.1 earthquake on Friday. Coming Sunday: Quake Debate On Sunday, the Tulsa World begins a three-part […]

Dallas Frackquake Swarm ! 10 in 12 Hours !

Dallas Frackquake Swarm 10 in 12 Hrs   READ MORE: On Frackquakes         Follow CBSDFW.COM: Facebook | Twitter DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – First there was an earthquake in Irving, then the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed a second 3.5 magnitude quake in west Texas near Snyder. Now the USGS has confirmed a thirdearthquake happened just before 7 p.m. The North Texas quake, again in Irving, registered 3.6 and happened at 6:52 p.m. The second Irving quake was east of the first tremor, with the epicenter near the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. Rafael Abreu, a geophysicist with the USGS, spoke with NewsRadio 1080 KRLD and said while the Irving earthquakes happened only hours apart, given the strength and intensity, “we’re not calling it an aftershock.” There have been 18 […]

OH. Frack ! Ohio to Displace Fracklahoma as World Capital of Frackquakes ?

Move over Fracklahoma, there’s a new frackquake contender, Ohio, who is fast catching up as a frackquake epicenter. Not just on disposal wells, but on the fracks themselves. Fracking related earthquakes in eastern Ohio now top 1,000 Before 2011 three Ohio Counties: Harrison, Mahoning and Trumbull had no known earthquakes. Since then, the earthquake total is over 1,000. All of the earthquakes were human induced due to fracking for shale gas. The quakes are restricted to four locations, two housing injection wells and two fracking well pads.                 A: Kim, W. Y. (2013). Frackquakes Make Oklahoma Earthquake Champ

Frackquakes Make Oklahoma Earthquake Champ

Oklahoma, which had previously been seismically inert for the last million years or so, now outranks California as the state with the most earthquakes. California is looking to regain her crown by permitting fracking frackquakes. Frackquakes Rock Oklahoma in Record Seismic Activity By Carey Gillam18 hours ago Related Stories (Reuters) - Earthquakes rattled residents in Oklahoma on Saturday, the latest in a series that have put the state on track for record quake activity this year, which some seismologists say may be tied to oil and gas exploration, known colloquially as “frackquakes.” One earthquake recorded at 3.8 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey rocked houses in several communities around central Oklahoma at 7:42 a.m. local time. Another about two hours earlier in the same part of the state, north of Oklahoma City, […]

Fracking Induced Seismic Events: Ohio Frackquakes

Shown below are excerpts from a letter about the recent seismic events in Ohio from Dr. Ray Beiersdorfer, a geology professor at Youngstown State University, published online in its entirety here: Fracking Induced Seismic Events Induced Seismic Events Related to Hydraulic Fracturing of Shale There have been five shallow earthquakes in close proximity to a shale gas fracking site in northeast Ohio very close to the Pennsylvania border (http://tinyurl.com/5th-earthquake). The first was a M 3 earthquake on Monday March 10th at 2:26 am. It was located east of Poland, OH between Hwy 224 and the Carbon-Limestone Landfill (owned by Republic Services.) The initial quake was followed by three aftershocks of M 2.4, 2.2 and 2.6 during the next ten hours. The most recent one M 2.1 occurred the following day at 3:01 […]

USGS Confirms Frackquakes

USGS Confirms Frackquakes

Guess that makes it official. Note that this refers to earthquakes induced by frackwaste disposal wells. Not frackquakes that are induced directly by fracks, which have been observed in Blackpool, England, Horn River, BC, near DFW Airport, and this week, in Ohio. USGS Confirms Fracking Caused 5.7 Quake in Oklahoma By Scott Kaufman Friday, March 7, 2014 14:12 EST The United States Geological Survey (USGS) issued a press release yesterday indicating that the magnitude 5.7 earthquake that struck Prague, Oklahoma in 2011 was “unintentionally human-induced.” The USGS claims that the magnitude 5.0 earthquake triggered by waste-water injection the previous day “trigger[ed] a cascade of earthquakes, including a larger one, [which] has important implications for reducing the seismic risk from waste-water injection.” The decade-long explosion of energy-producing facilities in the central United States has, according to a recent article in […]

Organizers have named the bus trip “Shake the Ground in Austin,” and they expect at least 50 people to show up for the regularly scheduled Texas Railroad Commission meeting Tuesday morning. Some Azle residents believe there is a link between local fracking injection wells and a series of recent earthquakes. In a one-month span, about 30 minor earthquakes hit the area. The Texas Railroad Commission regulates oil and gas operations. Earlier this […]

What to do With Frack Filth ?

What to do With Frack Filth ?

Search me. At the Cornell forum somebody asked what they do with frack waste in Texas - where it is illegal to dump it on roads or in municipal water treatment plants. My response: “We pump it down disposal wells in order to induce earthquakes.” Meaning, there is no way to safely get rid of the billions of gallons of toxic radioactive frack filth. Except, of course, dump it in Idahofrackingho, where it might boost the mean IQ a notch or two. Here’s the latest FrackQuake Swarm from Dallas Fort Worth http://thescoopblog.dallasnews.com/2013/11/for-the-11th-time-this-month-an-earthquake-rumbles-near-eagle-mountain-lake.html/ For the 11th time this month, an earthquake rattles residents near Eagle Mountain Lake By Robert Wilonsky [email protected] 7:01 am on November 25, 2013 | Permalink This map from the USGS shows the number of quakes recorded near Eagle Mountain Lake since […]

The Natural Gas Message

The Natural Gas Message

I recently gave a presentation on the Message and the Messengers of the natural gas industry. I have broken this presentation into two parts. Part One dissects the standard talking points of the industry, using an opinion piece by Chris Faulkner, CEO at Breitling Energy Companies, as the prime example. The Message video is approx. 30 minutes long. CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT Part 2 – The Messengers, examines the trade organizations, front groups and astroturfing echo chambers who deliver the coordinated messages. This will be available as soon as I am able to record it. New York Shale Well Leaks. Surprise.

New York Shale Well Leaks. Surprise.

A shale gas well leaking into a groundwater is a dog-bites-man story in Pennsylvania. It’s no longer news, unless it happens to a Famous Fracker, like Shelly DePue’s bubbling annulus. Or a Fracking Media Outlet, like Forbes, admits it happens. Then it’s news. Or when it happens in New York. Particularly when the DEC tried to cover it up: http://marcelluseffect.blogspot.com/2013/05/wetterling-well-short-lived-leaky.html “The Wetterling well was drilled to 4745 feet, not as deep as some of the wells around the area (some go deep into the Trenton Black River formation around 10,000 or so feet below the surface). There was no horizontal drilling, no hydrofracking. And yet it still sprung a gas leak. Methane leaks are not unusual for shale gas wells in Pennsylvania. In fact, citizen reporter Vera Scroggins recently compiled a stack of “Letters of […]
