Isn’t it great that NY is frack free! … don’t be so sure about that…
For nearly 2 years an ad hoc group of grassroots activists around the state have been working on mapping how shale gas drilling is already impacting NY despite the de facto moratorium.
That project is called YOU ARE HERE !
We will be launching this project on Sept 20th, on Saturday just before the big People’s Climate March in NYC. Soon after that, we will be showing YOU the map. If you can make it to NYC, join this event.

For two years, Sane Energy Project has been working in collaboration with our upstate allies and some amazing technical consultants to create a groundbreaking, interactive mapping tool that catalogs the existing and proposed shale gas infrastructure in New York State. Now, you can see all the pipelines, compressor stations, power plants, frack waste dump sites and industry support services all in one place. It also connects users to local groups, putting a face on the people power of our movement.On September 20th, one day before the climate march, we will launch the map at an event that is part of the Climate Convergence. We’ll demonstrate the map and hear firsthand accounts from affected frontline communities and meet many of the contributors to this project. Anti-corruption advocate Zephyr Teachout will also speak on the map’s political context. Attendees will be able to try out the map for themselves, using provided iPads. Join us as we celebrate a powerful new tool in the fight for a clean and safe energy future.
