Betty Sutliff of the Wayne County Landowner and Member of Northern Wayne Property Owners Alliance (NWPOA) is described by EID/IPAA as a retired schoolteacher and mother comments on the increasing tendency of the natural gas opposition to exploit children in their campaigns, while also pursuing the indoctrination of these young minds. As a “guest blogger” she cries out “Message to Natural Gas Opposition: Stop Exploiting Children!”
She marries the Bible and Hitler as the premise for her guest blog.
It can range from the Biblical admonition to parents in Proverbs 22: 6 to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it, “to the diabolical methods used to indoctrinate the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls. The difference with the Biblical admonition is that there are additional admonitions such as:
-
Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason
-
Search and seek out wisdom
-
Test all things; hold fast to what is true
Exploitation and Indoctrination? Really?
I went to the NWPOA website and was dismayed to find a photo exploiting families and children. I hope NWPOA will remove this photo immediately as it is an example of Biblical admonition and Hitler’s diabolical indoctrination methods.
I am further dismayed to find the EID/IPAA blogger, Nicole Jacobs, posting on the NWPOA site. Does EID/IPAA support NWPOA’s exploitation and indoctrination of children too?
Where was her outrage when Chief Oil and Gas Helped Students in Lycoming to “Dream Big”?
Chief Oil and Gas also made a generous donation to the James V. Brown Library’s Dream Big Summer Reading Program. According to the executive director of the program, Chief’s $2,500 donation “will touch over 1,000 lives from birth to adult” and help the bookmobile “to visit hundreds of children where they live and play.”
My bad. Using children in photos is a no-no, but buying support through the use of children is a yes-yes?
What about coloring books? Do these fall under the category of exploiting and indoctrinating children?
What about plying children with sweets? Let them Eat Cake? Is this permissible?
“A recent company event provided an opportunity for one of our engineers to educate children about natural gas development. Parents and educators often ask us for industry material to use with this audience so we made this video in the spirit of creativity.”
“What do 11 tubes of icing, more than two dozen cookies and 115 cupcakes have to do with natural gas? A lot, actually, once sculpted into a layer cake that uniquely demonstrates how the clean energy choice is extracted in our operations.”
Are computer games ok? I’m just asking to clarify what constitutes acceptable exploitation and indoctrination of children.
Atmos Energy offers computer games. Teach Your Children About Safety with Natural Gas Safety World
Natural Gas Safety World and Energy Efficiency World are interactive websites that encourage children, parents and teachers to learn about natural gas while engaging in fun activities intended to promote safety and conservation.
Are these exploitative and indoctrination tools acceptable? KIDS BOOKS from NJ Resources.
I can hardly wait for Betty Sutliff to take the natural gas industry to task for exploiting and indoctrinating children.

Good morning Dory-For reasons as arbitrary as their original ban (and we’ll see if they post it), EID has decided to un-ban me-for now. So I took that window of opportunity to post your entire essay here as comment-with full credit (of course). The willful ignorance and hypocrisy of pretty much every single one of the EID “guest” editorials just doesn’t cease to amaze-but this particular editorial was perhaps especially absurd-especially the NAZI stiff.
Thanks for this, Dory!
Wendy Lynne Lee
Dragging in the Bible and Hitler references is usually the last bastion. When all else fails, quote the Bible and send in the Hitler/Nazi analogies.
Another case of “Do as I say, not as I do”.
Hi Dory,
Underlying my own research is the fundamental question…Cui Bono?
Money is just one kind of benefit and for landowners looking to lease it’s the only thing that matters.
Words are failing us…Vile… Abhorrent…Shameful…I have run out of adjectives - none can describe the depth of contempt I feel for those people.
Thanks
I find using a thesaurus (not to be confused with a frackasaurus) is helpful when I run out of adjectives or words fail me.
Look up “pedofrackophile” A real epidemic at PSU
Still not enough…running out
“…raging, disgusting, dishonest, lying, vile, foul, putrefying, stinking, loathsome, hateful, detestable, reprehensible, abhorrent, awful, heinous, odious, vile, low, mean, abject, shameful, ignominious, shabby, ignoble, disreputable, discreditable, destructive, nasty, disagreeable, horrid, horrible, dreadful, obnoxious, odious, unsavory, repulsive, distasteful, nauseating, sickening, monstrous, evil, iniquitous, depraved, debased, reprehensible, godawful, lousy, scurvy, wicked, contemptible, nefarious, despicable, deplorable, debased — another hundred or thousand — you could line up and digest together into a peristalsa toward the asshole to convey the level of assholery the guy represents. I admit it: I don’t have the words…
They, and those like them, are the scum that floats to the top of a pond of scum and gets scum on it.” Syd Schwab
So happy to see this article and especially happy to see Wendy has added it to ms. betty’s bullcrap article as a reply in EID. I can’t believe someone would actually pay her to write that trash! Thank you again for laying it all out and also making me giggle as I read it!
don’t miss CHEVRON WANTS YOUR CHILDREN…

Just read it and roaring!!! You are amazing!! Thanks for the smiles today!! It does help when you connect the crap and expose it like you do. I just wish you’d hurry up and put all of your work into a published book form so you can put it directly into the hands as one source. I do have my Dory file up and running all the time!
Those who are eager to frack are willing to expose their own kids and their neighbors’ kids to the dangers of fracking in exchange for cash. Now THAT’s exploitation.
Thanks Dory. I commented to Tom Shepstone on his blatant inability to respond to the numerous examples given in the comments section concerning the industry’s promotion of propaganda among our children and youth. Apparently EID decided not to post it.
