Frackers Love DEC’s nano HIA

by Chip Northrup on January 6, 2013

They just can’t seem to actually find it . . . which mean’s they haven’t actually read it, but they know they like it. Whatever other information refers to. Or does not refer to. Here’s their take on the “hidden” memo, wherein they bitch slap the hand that feeds them - Cuomo - for not leaking the DEC’s abortive attempt at an 8 page nano HIA “nearly a year ago.”

To All:

The New York Times reported Thursday January 3rd that a leaked report produced by the state concluded nearly a year ago that fracking is safe technology which will not cause dangerous water contamination.

While the Times does not appear to have published the 8-page analysis, it offers quotes which sound conclusive on the issue: “By implementing the proposed mitigation measures the Department expects that human chemical exposures during normal HVHF [fracking] operations will be prevented or reduced below levels of significant health concern.”

Here’s a copy of the “report” - the whole fracking 8 pages of bureaucratic whitewash

My take on the planted purloined bureaucratic BS is here

“The analysis and other health assessments have been closely guarded by Gov. Cuomo and his administration as the governor weighs whether to approve fracking. The Governor has been unnerved in part by strident opposition on his party’s left and constituents who are environmental extremists.”

It’s not an analysis or a health assessment, it’s just 8 pages of frack flak rhetoric that was intended for a misbegotten issue of the regulations - that were stillborn after Cuomo was pressured into doing a health impact study. Which has now effectively caused the dSGEIS to miss it’s one year due date - and go back and be started again.

“Unnerved by strident opposition” as in vivisected ? Like a toady ? “Environmental extremists” Who they talking about ?

“A plan to allow a limited development in the state’s five Southern Tier Counties along the Pennsylvania border is still seen as the most likely outcome.”

The old Fracking Sacrifice Zone ploy again, eh ? That even IOGA rejected as a cowardly cop-out.

“By the administration’s secrecy on the issue, it’s clear that hiding this particular report only benefited the anti-fracking forces and punished those who stand to make a profit from the process.”

Meaning fracking Chesapeake, some gas lobbyist, some guys in Albany, etc. You know, the guys that drafted these 8 pages of drilling spin, along with the rest of the regs. - and whatever else the DEC is hiding.
