On Wednesday, July 31, 2012, I logged into facebook and began skimming through posts, checking out article links and catching up on messages. The lovely picture of petunias with a butterfly caught my eye. I could almost smell the flowers.
Pennsylvania’s First Lady, Susan Corbett is urging people to check out the flowers at her residence in a tour called “Nature’s Pollinators”. I couldn’t help wondering how well Susan’s garden would flourish in the middle of Fracksylvania, surrounded by gas wells instead of tastefully placed
rock piles, frack ponds instead of Koy ponds, and a big ol’pipeline through the Petunia bed.
Carol French, a Bradford County Dairy Farmer, knows firsthand what it means. She signed a gas lease in 2006. In March 2011 her water changed. A little over a year later, DEP still has not shown up to take samples.
Carol will be telling her story in an upcoming film “Triple Divide”.
Perhaps Susan Corbett would host a showing of the the film? Maybe in her garden, with comfy chairs between the Petunia beds?
