FrackNation: Tedious leprechaun likes fracking. So fracking what ?

FrackNation: Tedious leprechaun likes fracking. So fracking what ?

The history of anti-Gasland mockumentaries repeats itself – again. The first time as tragedy – Shelly dePue’s painfully embarrassing Bubbling Annulus, (which is the unseen star of Truthyland), the second time as farce: Phlegm McKleer’s cut ‘n paste FrackNation.  Wherein Phlegm the Phracking Phreak explains the grass roots opposition to shale gas industrialization as a Russian plot.  That’s certainly news to me, tovarich. When I thought I was supposed to be working for the fracking Park Foundation. But it explains much about this irritating leprechaun’s antics: He’s just fracking nuts. He teams up with frack flak Tom Shepstone. Which pretty much sums it up. Then hassles Yoko’s bus tour of the Pennsylvania frack zone. Check. Gratuitous use of derivative movie title. FrackNation / GasLand. Get it ? Must have seemed clever after 4 pints of Guinness.  Trys to rip off Michael Moore’s documentary […]

Chip Northrup Interview by Ellen Cantarow

Chip Northrup Interview by Ellen Cantarow

Ellen Cantarow is one of the few journalists that does interviews longer than 3 minutes, so she is able to get a much more comprehensive picture of the subject matter. Plus she asks the key questions. EcoWatch is one of the few e-Zines that stays on the cutting edge of what’s happening – with their own and independently sourced reports. Was honored to help . . . Meet Chip Northrup—An Articulate and Energetic Opponent of Fracking Ellen Cantarow James “Chip” Northrup When I first began writing about the anti-fracking movement in New York, I was told I must interview James “Chip” Northrup, a Texas oil-investor-turned-anti-fracker with a home in Cooperstown, New York, and another in Dallas, Texas. “Chip,” I was told, had an insider’s knowledge of the industry and was a frequent […]

THANK-YOU Marcellus Shale Coalition

THANK-YOU Marcellus Shale Coalition

What?  Did you read the title correctly?  Does it really say THANK-YOU Marcellus Shale Coalition????? Yes, you read it correctly.  I am thanking the Marcellus Shale Coalition for “striking back” against Promised Land movie. I woke this morning to an interesting article “Marcellus Shale industry strikes back at ‘Promised Land’” | timesonline | By Scott Tady | January 4, 2013. Excerpt: About 40 movie theaters statewide, including the Cinemark cinemas in Robinson Township, will run ads from the Marcellus Shale Coalition prior to screenings of “Promised Land,” which was filmed in western Pennsylvania. The commercial will also screen at Cinemark in Center Township even though the film is not scheduled to show there. The ads promote the Marcellus Shale Coalition’s website, www.LearnAboutShale.org, where people can submit natural-gas related questions “and […]

Fracking Predictions

January 1, 2013
Fracking Predictions

These are my predictions for the New Year, based on a careful reading of Nostradamus augmented by a big tumbler of egg-nog spiked to the brim (no freeboard) with bourbon. 1. You will comment on the proposed fracking regulations. The DEC received fewer than 700 comments on the Sept 2011 draft. I did about 50, the frackers did about 600. We’ll beat by 10X. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=NY_Fracking_Regulations 2. The dSGEIS does not survive the Previous Mayan Time Cycle, because it missed the fracking due date on November 29th, and the DEC has to re-open the process during the New (ie. current) Mayan Time Cycle.  (The Helen beat me to this one . .  .)  3. You will speak at the Assembly fracking Hearing on January 10th or send in a paper.  Why let The Sandra and The Helen […]

Promised Land: Home Rule Ad

Promised Land: Home Rule Ad

NY Daily News review here -  http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/frack-gov-watch-promised-land-late-article-1.1231305#ixzz2GpoZLl00 Just got back from a Dallas early screening of Promised Land and it is indeed a great movie, basically a black comedy about a life form that is almost as low as the fracking shills at Energy in Depth. (Hence the R rating) Nifty O. Henry ending before the denouement. Great casting, witty, insightful dialogue and a Double McGuffin that I did not see coming, but that was convincing in that it grew out of the plot and was creepily plausible – if you understand the industry’s dirty tricks and realize that they use gas roots operatives posing as locals. . . and vice versa . . .  Frances McDormand did a pitch-perfect portrayal of a gas company landman. Actually a better portrayal of a landman than Matt […]

The NOT Real Promised Land

The NOT Real Promised Land

On December 28, 2012, the movie Promised Land is being released in New York and Los Angeles.  For the rest of us, we will have to wait until January 4, 2013. Since its announcement this summer, the Natural Gas industry has had its boxers in a bunch.   Between editorial hit pieces of Promised Land, and attempts to stir up a “scandal”, the Natural Gas industry has created quite an interest in the movie.   The Natural Gas industry has gone as far as to release the script, well, technically not the industry itself, but rather one of its “friends” released the script. In November 2012, Phelim McAleer, the director of “FrackNation” wrote an op-ed in the Blaze, and released the script.   See  FrackNation attacks Promised Land. Just as the Natural Gas […]

Promised Land unBourne

December 23, 2012
Promised Land unBourne

Promised Land has been screened to a friendly audience of fractavists, some of whom were apparently disappointed that Mr. Damon did not undergo a transformation on the road to Damascus  “turn Bourne” and take out a few of his former fellow frackers with some anti-fracking polemics, if not a sniper rifle.  Sort of like Josh Fox with an AK-47 instead of a banjo. Apparently no such luck. As I pointed out in my earlier blogs on this, being a landman is not an uncommon way to get started in the oil and gas business. J. Paul Getty started out as one in Oklahoma – working for his mom. Aubrey McClendon was a landman. One of my relatives and several of my friends were/are. http://www.nofrackingway.us/2012/09/21/the-landmen-should-have-been-the-clue/ The problem is that, being a landman […]

200,000 Fracking Comments !

December 14, 2012
200,000 Fracking Comments !

Over 200,000 comments were delivered to the DEC’s bunker in Albany courtesy of the Yoko, Sandra & Sean Delivery Service. (See story below) Bravo to all concerned ! Now time to sue the DEC for trying to turn the Empire State into a fracking banana republic. Here is the breakdown of who helped gather the 200,000 responses. Plus thousands more from individuals, organizations and elected officials. To put this in perspective – this is over 300 times the number of responses the DEC got on the Sept. 2011 draft of the proposed drilling regulations. And 3 X the number of responses they received on the environmental regulations, the dSGEIS.  Delaware Riverkeeper Network: 250 30 Days: 23,187 Citizens Action New York: 1844 Food and Water Watch: 15,333 Signon.org: 13,335 CREDO: 76,158 Catskill Citizens: 23,924 Sierra Club: 4600 350.org: 2400 Working […]

Meet the new fracking regs.

November 30, 2012
Meet the new fracking regs.

Same as the old fracking regs. And yes, we did get fooled again. Have breezed through the DEC’s proposed fracking regulations, and guess what, after 80,000 comments, 4 year, 298 meetings, and blah blah blah, they have not changed a !*&*7%%$ fracking thing. Same old poop - absolutely nothing to do with protecting the environment, much less people’s health. Get real. Oh, one thing, they changed the 1972 setback of a gas well from a house from 100 feet to fracking 500 feet. (Which would still be illegal in many states and under most municipal land use ordinances.) And extended the life of a drilling permit from 6 months to 2 years –  as a new delay to replace the gambit of force majeure. The setback of a gas well from a water well […]

Promised Land

Promised Land

Matt Damon’s new movie, Promised Land premiers in NYC and LA on December 28th. It will have a preview and video chat this Tuesday evening. Video here : http://www.frackfreeamerica.org/promised-land.html My preview pre-review here =  http://www.nofrackingway.us/2012/12/23/promised-land-re-bourne/ Should be interesting, since the landmen are the first most people meet in the fracking game, and then it goes sideways/ downhill from there for most - you that is, not the landmen. If there is any doubt about what a lying bunch of fracking thieves the shale gamers are, the landmen are a good place to start: Fracking Gasholes 101. The landmen screw you. Then you get fracked. Sound like something you want in your town ? Stuck in a bad lease ? Contact Fleased. Join Matt Damon and Gus Van Sant this coming Tuesday, November 27 at 7:15pm as they discuss their upcoming feature film, “Promised Land”, […]
