FRACKING PSYOPS and NEW GAS INDUSTRY SPIN

FRACKING PSYOPS and NEW GAS INDUSTRY SPIN

Last week I wrote about PENNSYLVANIA HOMELAND SECURITY GAS DRILLING.   I had also pointed out there was distribution of ITRR’s reports to gas industry interests.  Click here for more on email exchange between Former PA Homeland Secretary Jim Powers, ITRR and Pam Witmar. One reader wrote back pointing out a 2010 PCN press conference with the then PA Governor Ed Rendell speaking about PA Homeland Security tracking. I have been unable to find a video or transcript of the actual press conference.  (If anyone has a link to it, I’d appreciate it if you send it along.) According to the reader, during the press conference, Rendell stated PA Homeland Security had credible evidence the anti gas drillers were going to put barrels of frack fluid on the sidewalk outside Rendell’s […]

The Message and the Messengers Presentation

The Message and the Messengers Presentation

I would like to thank Professors Wendy Lee and Susan O’Donnell of Bloomsburg University for their tremendous work in bringing the Marcellus Shale Documentary Project to our area, and for making me part of it. On April 30, 2013, I gave a presentation which examines the messaging machine of the natural gas industry.   Unfortunately, we were unable to record it. I have uploaded the presentation, these are just the slides and you may view it by clicking:  http://www.scribd.com/doc/139392431/The-Message-and-the-Messengers For the slides and my notes, click:  http://www.scribd.com/doc/139392940/The-Message-and-the-Messengers If you care for even more in-depth look, check out these related blog posts: American Energy Coalition (AEC)  – Grassroots my A** Control Risks Group Limited (CRG) joins the Fracking Play   Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 1 Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 2 Energy-in-Depth (EID) […]

HBW Resources, The Frack Pack

HBW Resources, The Frack Pack

I was checking my twitter account, and found an interesting “New Follower”, by the name of Michael Zehr.   I clicked on his name to see if he was worth following back or not, and had a good chuckle. Michael Zehr works for HBW Resources as Vice President of Federal Affairs.  HBW Resources has been in my connect-the-dots data because in February 2009, the American Petroleum Institute (API) hired HBW Resources.   Andrew Browning, a partner in HBW Resources is the lobbyist. Browning is the “B” in HBW Resources, David Holt is the “H”, and Michael Whatley is the “W”, but we will get into their connections a bit later in this article. I hadn’t done much “dot chasing” with regards to HBW Resources, but since Zehr was nice enough to follow […]

The NOT Real Promised Land

The NOT Real Promised Land

On December 28, 2012, the movie Promised Land is being released in New York and Los Angeles.  For the rest of us, we will have to wait until January 4, 2013. Since its announcement this summer, the Natural Gas industry has had its boxers in a bunch.   Between editorial hit pieces of Promised Land, and attempts to stir up a “scandal”, the Natural Gas industry has created quite an interest in the movie.   The Natural Gas industry has gone as far as to release the script, well, technically not the industry itself, but rather one of its “friends” released the script. In November 2012, Phelim McAleer, the director of “FrackNation” wrote an op-ed in the Blaze, and released the script.   See  FrackNation attacks Promised Land. Just as the Natural Gas […]

Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 3

Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 3

NOTE:  This is the last part of the EID series.   Links to Parts 1&2 below: Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 1 Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 2: The Birth of Energy-In-Depth The Untangling I was once asked to give a visual description the “dots” and connections.   Images like pyramid, web, or tree are too organized of a structure. What comes to mind is to take 30 very hyperactive cats, put them in a yarn shop overnight. Now, untangle the yarn. That’s what I have tried to do, untangle the connections to the dots and make some sense of it. Pay attention to intersecting dots: FTI Consulting, IPAA, Institute for Energy Research, the revolving door of Congress and more.   Have to Start Untangling Somewhere Brian Kennedy Per: NATURAL GAS: BP, others push […]

Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 1 Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 3 Birth of Energy-in-Depth June 5, 2009: A letter was sent by Barry Russell, President and CEO of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) to members with the “birth announcement” of Energy-in-Depth. Kudos to Desmogblog for locating the announcement. Click here to see full copy. Birth announcments are useless without pics!                  EID and IPAA share the same contact addresses:               In the diagram below we see the funding sources.   Not what you would typically consider SMALL corporations.     Note that the list of members are mostly more gas/oil industry trade groups and organizations. In addition the Washington, DC office,EID has two satellite branches:  EID-Northeast Marcellus Initiative which covers […]

Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots - 1

Note: This is a series focusing on Energy-in-Depth (EID) and will be presented over the next few days.  The topic of EID and its “dots” is quite a tangled picture.  I hope, by presenting this in parts, it will avoid sending you, the reader, screaming from the room.  Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 2: The Birth of Energy-In-Depth Energy-in-Depth (EID) “GAS”roots – 3   Truthland Truthland is a 34-minute movie created by the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA).  The Truthland website promo states:   “In the HBO movie “Gasland,” New York City filmmaker Josh Fox tried to scare people into thinking that natural gas development and hydraulic fracturing are new, unregulated and dangerous. It made one Pennsylvania mom living atop the Marcellus Shale wonder what she was getting into. She asked […]
