Cuomo gave the frackers a sneak preview at the fracking regulations that Chesapeake's lobbyist wrote. Based on the collaboration between the DEC and the gas lobbyists, we can guess what's in store for us.We know they started off with the worst shale gas regulations in the US. With a gas well setback guaranteed to frack a mortgage or homeowner's insurance. We know that New York has no has no autonomous environmental agency for shale gas. And we know how it makes regulations - it takes dictation … [Read more...] about Compulsory Integration as Preview of Fracking Regs.

Cabots leaking gas wells are stil in the news, and Cabot still denies they leak - even after paying the fines and trucking freshwater to the people they fracked. This is a classic "The Sky is Pink" industry response to a problem. Deny the obvious: gas wells leak. Horizontal gas wells leak - a lot. Cabot's lawyers will not allow anyone at the company to admit what everyone in the industry knows - those horizontal shale gas wells are venting gas into groundwater. Because that's what horizontal … [Read more...] about Dimock Denials

The Germans have been listening to their scientists and engineers and have concluded that they do not want to be fracked silly. What the German's propose makes Pennsylvania and New York look like fracking colonies of Oklahoma and Texas. Which, of course, they are . . . The Germans have taken a hard look at fracking and have decided - not so fast. Not surprisingly, they have addressed several issues that we have been emphasizing for years in New York, as noted … [Read more...] about Vat Der Frak Fritz ?
New York Senate forum to address the likely economic impacts of fracking in New York. The DEC has based its economic impact analysis on reserve estimates that were a bit overstated. They took those reserve estimates and used them to project what that would mean in terms of jobs and taxes in New York. And those projections became part of the dSGEIS and the fracking folklore about what fracking would do for Upstate. New York became the World Capital of Shale Hype. No one in the industry actually … [Read more...] about State Senate Forum on Fracking Economics Feb 4th
The DEC knows they will be sued over the fracking regulations, so they know that they have to negotiate right up until the regulations are issued, if only to to circumscribe the basis of the suit. They no longer are in a fracking rush, because exploring for dry shale gas is effectively dead in the US. (In-fill drilling of proven reserves continues for reasons discussed below.) The notion that the NYS dSGEIS planning process is somehow extraordinary shows a certain lack of understanding of … [Read more...] about Make the cop the pusher. Then don’t pay him. As noted, the "deadline" that the DEC will miss next week is over the fracking regulations as well as the dSGEIS (the environmental regs.) Both matter. Fracking regulations matter because, absent a local land use ordinance, or some favorable environmental gerrymandering in the "bSGEIS", the drilling regulations may be the only thing that controls were a shale gas well can be drilled. And right now that is only 100 fracking feet away from your kitchen window in New York. That is why the fracking … [Read more...] about Fracking Regulations Matter
They just can't seem to actually find it . . . which mean's they haven't actually read it, but they know they like it. Whatever other information refers to. Or does not refer to. Here's their take on the "hidden" memo, wherein they bitch slap the hand that feeds them - Cuomo - for not leaking the DEC's abortive attempt at an 8 page nano HIA "nearly a year ago." "Tioga County Landowners Group To All: The New York Times reported Thursday January 3rd that a leaked report … [Read more...] about Frackers Love DEC’s nano HIA
Shale is radioactive - and that means fracking it brings radioactive materials to the surface. As previously discussed, shale is the most radioactive sedimentary layer - to find shale, you look for radiation in a gamma ray well log. If shale was not radioactive, we would not be able to find it. Drilling through it horizontally simply increases the amount of radioactive material exposed. Fracking the shale leaches the radioactive material out and transports it to the surface as flowback. Drill … [Read more...] about Radium Wells
A new Wiki site explains how to respond to in writing and what some of the main concerns are with what the DEC proposes. Note that, like the fracking regulations and the dSGEIS, the DEC has given you the opportunity to tell them what you think of their proposed regulations - so would help for you to respond. Wiki LNG Regs. site here = http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/New_York_LNG_regulations We will add to it with written responses from groups and individuals. Suffice to say that … [Read more...] about Responding to Proposed NY LNG Regulations
