There is no credible threat to the NYS frack ban from Congress, no viable mineral rights "reparations" lawsuit from landowners, just a lot of hot air from Shale Shysters talking to reporters. Imagine that. (My comments in brackets below) Threat to NY's Frack Ban Could Come from Congress John Ferro, Poughkeepsie Journal11:30 p.m. EST January 18, 2015 Even as the ban is finalized, Republican congressman are considering ways to overturn it When Gov. Andrew … [Read more...] about More Hot Air From Shale Shysters on NYS Frack Ban

Have had some more fun with this grab-bag of misfits that $hill for shale, Energy In Depth http://www.scribd.com/doc/78149419/Energy-in-Depth-Tom-Shepstone Comments on their article about me below: "The Ordinary Opinions of James “Chip” Northrup 2012 March 9 by EID Special Correspondent "Sitting on a porch near the edge of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, New York sits James “Chip” Northrup, discussing what has become the preeminent issue of upstate New York–hydraulic fracturing. Over 200,000 comments were delivered to the DEC's bunker in Albany courtesy of the Yoko, Sandra & Sean Delivery Service. (See story below) Bravo to all concerned ! Now time to sue the DEC for trying to turn the Empire State into a fracking banana republic. Here is the breakdown of who helped gather the 200,000 responses. Plus thousands more from individuals, organizations and elected officials. To put this in perspective - this is over 300 times the number of responses the DEC got on … [Read more...] about 200,000 Fracking Comments !
Truthyland aka "Truthland" was screened publicly in Syracuse to an audience of eleven (11), then in Buffalo to an evidently skeptical audience of thirty (30), who laughed their way through most of the film. Here are some highlights from the Q&A session that was punctuated by the audience heckling the panel of fracking shills, the panel of shills heckling the audience, the Energy in Depth spokesman heckling a questioner, and the host calling armed, bullet-proof-vested security guards to … [Read more...] about Truthyland: Fracks, Lies and Videotape
NYC has requested a "seismic buffer" around its Catskill water supply - about 7 miles to be precise. To prevent a frack from inducing an earthquake and ruining NYC's water supply. Like fracks have elsewhere - which obey Murphy's Law: "What can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time in the worst possible place" Like the NYC main water supply http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/02/us-gas-fracking-idUSTRE7A160020111102 (No fracking liability insurance for this. Even from AIG) … [Read more...] about New York City’s Seismic Carve-Out From Fracking Earthquakes
When will the DEC issue its fracking regulations ? When their criminal defense lawyers think they can defend them in court. Isn't that a fine way to run an environmental agency ? They're still trying to figure out how to get enough lipstick on the fracking pig. . . As if there was really any fracking rush. Andrew Revkin has the latest on Frack Regs. Ground Hog Day 26. The DEC has known it was going to get sued the day it issues it's fracking regulations. They have known this from the … [Read more...] about DEC Circles the Wagons
Albany Law School put on a great day long conference on land use planning and land use zoning. It may have been the first (and last ? ) time that both sides were represented on all the issues : the dSGEIS, the Middlefield/ Dryden suits, and land use zoning. So thanks to Charles Gottlieb and his crew for putting it on. About 120 attendees - mainly from local government. Nan Stolzenberg and Ted Fink did a great job explaining why land use plans are essential - and how to do a good one. Mike … [Read more...] about Helen Slottje Vivisects a Fracking Toady
DEC Commissioner Joseph "Doc" Martens can come up with some real howlers. For instance, when he rejected the idea of an outside review of the health impacts of fracking, he explained his position this way with a big fracking slice of Pink Sky: In his statement on Thursday, however, Mr. Martens rejected the idea of commissioning an outside study, calling it “an inappropriate delegation of a governmental responsibility.” “To suggest private interests or academic experts bring more independence to … [Read more...] about DEC Doublespeak
These are my predictions for the New Year, based on a careful reading of Nostradamus augmented by a big tumbler of egg-nog spiked to the brim (no freeboard) with bourbon. 1. You will comment on the proposed fracking regulations. The DEC received fewer than 700 comments on the Sept 2011 draft. I did about 50, the frackers did about 600. We'll beat by 10X. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=NY_Fracking_Regulations 2. The dSGEIS does not survive the Previous Mayan Time … [Read more...] about Fracking Predictions
We won that battle. So relax. Take the rest of the week off. There will be plenty to do later on. Mean time, there will be no fracking "counter-attack" by the frackers. No big lawsuits. No Congressional action. Just some frak flaks whining and mouthing off. Here's why: It's simply not worth it to the frackers to take any more of a public caning. And they admit it publicly. Which is why there won't be any meaningful lawsuits or legislation to challenge this. They not only lost, but they were … [Read more...] about What the Frack Happens Now New York ?
