By casinos. Surprise ! And the geology of the area. Not such a surprise ! And New York’s new Mayor Elect who is not likely to be a complete fracking shill like that other guy. Thanks in advance, Mayor !
Casino traffic and frack truck convoys don’t mix. And the casino lobby will make sure who wins that argument in Albany. Local frak flaks like Karen Moreau and Brad Gill won’t be able to get a lie in edgewise. Wherever there is a casino, there will be no fracking. Wherever there is a road into or out of a casino, there will be no frack traffic. Game over. Casinos can out-lobby anybody. Bye bye frackers, hello Barry Manilow in the Main Lounge.
Chesapeake’s secret plan to turn Grossingers into a Man Camp will never materialize. They rolled Box Cars on that one.
As I explained at Cornell and in a narrated slide show- economics and land use restrict the productive extent of a shale play. If there is a more productive use for the land, or it is environmentally protected, there will be no rigs. The DECs fracking economic forecasts did not take any of those surface restrictions into consideration.
Then there’s that matter of the Catskill’s geology. Catch is there ain’t no shale gas in Sullivan County. Or Orange, Greene, Ulster or (probably) much of Delaware County. The Line of Death – where the gas is gone, cooked off – extends across Wayne County, Pa. where Hess and Newfield recently de-camped into New York north of the Delaware/ Sullivan County line – as was explained in detail by Jerry Acton’s model of New York’s shale gas potential, and Brian Brock’s geological analysis of the area and Lou Allstadt’s revelations about the O&G industry’s actions prior to the de facto fracking moratorium. Summary of the 4 presentations here
The Catskills will get the hangover – the frack filth coming out of Fracksylvania – without benefit of the night on the town – having out-of-state frackers shoot up the place prospecting for gas wells. Such a deal !
The newly elected Mayor of New York City is not likely to promote Cuomo’s Fracking Sacrifice Zone. That was some G&T addled “Let Them Eat Frack” notion supported by Mayor Bloomy and his Aspen Institute pals, the Environmental Defense Frauds. My guess is that new mayor will show a bit more concern for the folks outside of the New York City watershed – which he will continue to protect, thanks very much.
The new Mayor of New York will not be so quick or so cavalier as to sacrifice Upstate to frackers. The Age of Arrogance at City Hall has come to an abrupt end.
For that we can all be grateful. See you by the pool.
