If you’re in the business of getting government contracts to promote fracking for the shale charlatans inside the DEC, it’s now increasingly trendy to pretend that you are not a fracking shill. Even if you are. Preferably after you’ve already gotten the contract to be a shale shill. The Times Union tries to sort out the fracks from the fabrications . . .
The latest IOGA member to renounce its IOGA membership is Alpha Geosciences:
Also backing away Thursday from IOGA was Alpha Geoscience, based in Clifton Park, which said individual employees, but not the company, held IOGA memberships. “It was not accurate to list Alpha Geoscience as a corporate member of IOGA NY in your April 22 letter, and please be advised that you are not authorized to issue correspondence on behalf of Alpha Geoscience,” a company official wrote to Gill.
That’s what’s known in the trade as a big fracking lie. The only individual members in IOGA are sole proprietorships, un-incorporated firms with fewer than two employees. Alpha’s employees represented the company, not themselves, as Alpha claims.
Alpha Geoscience was hired by NYSERDA to respond to an analysis on potential hydrofracking risks to water submitted by several environmental groups to DEC’s initial review.
That’s putting it mildly. Alpha Geoscience was hired by NYSERDA to try to refute hydrogeologist Tom Myers’s dSGEIS comments:
Myers was concerned, among other things, with aquifer contamination,
so answering Myers’s work was not a small or insignificant part of the
dSGEIS drafting process. And that task went to IOGA member Alpha Geosciences.
Alpha Geoscience, like the preposterously named “Ecology and Environment Incorporated” have been shilling for shale non-stop since that was what it took to get a contract from their Fracking Accomplices inside the DEC. Being a shale shill was how they got the contracts in the first place. Had they not been willing to shamelessly promote shale, the DEC would not have given them the contract. It would have gone to some other frak flaks. Like “Ecology and Environment Incorporated.”
Tom Johnson, Vice President and Senior Geologist at Alpha Geosciences, participated at a number of IOGA forums given in NY state:
Johnson testified to a state senate hearing, where he said that drinking water wells would not be contaminated in New York by HVHF wells because the water wells are too shallow – which completely ignores the fact that the HVHF wellbores vent methane up into the groundwater tapped by the water wells.
Peter Muller, a Senior Geologist for Alpha Geoscience addressed shale gas development issues as more lobbyist than scientist:
AlphaGeoScience (same company as Alpha Geological Services) is a partner in the euphemistically named “Salt Water Solutions” LLC (SWS) which treats fracking waste, a process that they promoted at the New York State Senate hearing: www.saltwatersolutionsllc.com
The DEC has started to refer to frackwaste as “brine”, equating “brine” to seawater:
AlphaGeoScience wrote a letter stating that the product that they sell to treat roads does not contain gas drilling waste. It’s Saratoga Springs water ?
Alpha’s “Salt Water Solutions”
Alpha’s “Green Solution”
“The common practice for handling flowback and production water from natural gas wells has been to remove certain contaminants and to either dilute the wastewater for reuse in other wells or to concentrate the water for reuse of the distilled portion of the fluid and to dispose of the remaining concentrate for a fee at a landfill or by deep well injection. The approach taken by SWS is to process the concentrate to create useable products without a need for disposal. SWS plans to include removal of particulates, heavy metals, naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMS) prior to processing the concentrate. The distilled water can be returned and used for hydrofracturing and the remaining materials will be processed into useable forms such as high purity salt, calcium/magnesium products, and distilled water. SWS has developed marketing relationships to sell the useable products.”
Before shale, “Alpha Geoscience” shilled for any polluter that would pay their fee – including the defendants in the Love Canal trial. http://www.alphageoscience.
Alpha Geoscience President, Sam Gowan, was an expert witness for the defense in the Love Canal trial in 1991 during the punitive damage case against Occidental Chemical Company (successor to Hooker Chemical Company) and Occidental’s counter claims. Dr. Gowan documented the history of the canal on behalf of Occidental based on the interpretation of air photographs.
All this becomes of record in the unfolding tapestry of Cuomo’s On-Going Fracking Scandal.
“Natural gas hydrofracking opponents turned up the heat Thursday, pointing out two more companies working on the state’s hydrofracking environmental review that also appeared on a list of members of a statewide gas lobbying group that chided Gov. Andrew Cuomo for undue delays. That brings the number of companies to three, and foes say that raises potential conflict of interest concerns that should force the state to scrap its Revised Draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement, now four years in the making, and start over. A delay could push back any decision indefinitely. At issue are companies Ecology and Environment, Alpha Geoscience, and URS Corp., which are part of reviews by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority on whether hydrofracking ought to be allowed in the state. On Monday, those three companies also appeared among several hundred members of the Independent Oil & Gas Association of New York as part of a letter to Cuomo questioning whether his decision will be based on “science and real-world experience” or “misunderstanding and misrepresentation.”
Misrepresentations from fracking shills, who pretend not to be fracking shills, whenever it comes time to get a government contract to be a fracking shill for the fracking shills inside the government. Is that fracking perfectly clear ?
